Day 246 – Chocolate Milk

Your good friend S came over a couple of days ago. It was so nice of him. Shalini was there too. We had a great game of Catan (I should have won if not for my rookie error with the longest road…).

We were talking about your food preferences. And your drink preferences. In recent years, you limited yourself only to water (a lot of it!) and black coffee. I rarely saw you drink anything else.

But when you were younger, you loved your sweet drinks. Especially flavoured milk and milkshakes. Cookies and cream was your favourite flavour, but sometimes you would opt for chocolate. Just a few days before you left us, I had taken a picture of a new flavour of Magnolia milk when I was at the supermarket and sent it to you. It was the new Cookies and Cream flavour. You had replied, “I wish I was still fat”.

But this post is about a slightly embarrassing belief you had- about the origins of chocolate milk. I can’t remember your exact age, but I think it was well beyond 10 years. I came to know about it only in your early teens.

That you believed chocolate milk came from brown cows….

I couldn’t believe it when I finally knew. And you kept justifying the belief (though you knew by then that wasn’t the case). For one of the brightest people I know, it baffles me that you believed this. Chocolate milk comes from brown cows. I had then asked you where you thought strawberry milk came from. And you didn’t have an answer.

Super cute Josh. It is a sweet memory.

There must be cows in heaven. Perhaps in all the colours of the rainbow? Pink cows give you strawberry milk? Yellow cows- banana milk? Blue cows- blueberry milk? Green cows- matcha milk? Of course, the brown cows in heaven give you chocolate milk. And your absolute favourite which you never got to try- black and white cows- giving you cookies and cream milk!

I hope you are enjoying all the milk in abundance!

Love you my darling, and missing you more everyday.
