Day 328 – Snow (Part 2)

Dear Josh,

I was so excited to see snow 3 days ago. That morning, when I was texting Shalini, she told me I could write your name in the snow. At the time, it had been snowing for just over 12 hours, and most of it melted when it touched the surface. I was telling Shalini it’s not enough to do that.

Jess and I braved the weather and went to a place called Nyhavn. It was mostly outdoor walking, with occasional respite from the weather by going into the various shops. Within hours, the cold was becoming too much to bear. And by the end of the afternoon, the city was covered in a blanket of snow.

As we came out of a cozy little pizza place, I saw a flat bench covered with snow. And I managed to write your name on it. Within seconds I told Jess- you would be saying “what the hell are you doing guys? Randomly writing my name?”. But Jess said it’s good it was generic enough a name. And I was so glad I got to do it. Much like your friend S carved on the lake in the Himalayas.

By the end of that day, I had had enough of the snow. The weather was quite brutal. I had also assumed this was a regular phenomenon in Copenhagen. Until last night, when we took an Uber to dinner. And the driver asked us if we had been in town the day before. Of course the conversation then turned to the weather that day. And he said it almost never snows in Copenhagen. It’s cold, and gets colder, but almost never snows. I guess that was you telling us, “do you see what I did? It wasn’t that easy!”.

Your timing and execution could not have been better. Just as Jess arrived. And lasting just over 24 hours. I got to experience the snowflakes catching on my eyelashes, on my nose, and even got a taste of it. I got to see the blankets of snow all around the city. I got to write your name in the snow. And I even managed to make a relatively large snowball and smashed it against the ground. I also experienced the not so nice aspect of the icy ground, that made me afraid to walk.

Thank you darling. It was just the right amount. Almost on cue, the snow stopped in 24 hours, and it’s bright sunshine again. Copenhagen is a pretty city- don’t you think? But it’s too cold for me. Thank you for being with us on this trip. I hope you enjoyed it too.

Love Mum
