I thought it was time to write about Knight (aka Dumber of Dumb and Dumber).
Early 2019, you were hassling me for a second dog. I was vehemently against it. You first wanted a Shiba Inu. You were very strong about this. I didn’t want it at all. I managed to find a video of a Shiba Inu bullying a little poodle and sent it to you. And you quickly wrote back to me saying “ok, maybe not”. The obsession of getting a second dog didn’t end there though.
Days later, you had communicated with a local pet shop importing Pomskies from Ireland and you sent me a picture. He looked like a little black bear, with striking blue eyes. His name was Knight. I replied on WhatsApp with “Awww”. And you took it as though I had agreed. Despite multiple conversations between us you kept insisting this was the one.
Later that night, I had taken Jess for tuition. Over dinner, we both discussed Knight and somehow came to the conclusion that we should get him. What followed was a private discussion with the lady at the pet shop and me, and within a couple of hours of negotiations, it was confirmed. We decided to surprise you though (you were having a separate conversation with the lady not knowing of my private conversation with her). The lady and I decided to “trick” you and say Knight had already been taken by someone else.
Late that night, as soon as Jess and I came home, you came to the door and said Knight had already been taken, and we missed it. You were quite disappointed. I looked at you and said “Guess who took him?”. It was one of the happiest moments for you.
Weeks later, Knight came. He looked significantly different from the photo (I still insist this was not the dog I ordered). But he brought a whole lot more joy to the household.
Dumb (Cadbury) and dumber (Knight) miss you so much. Especially sleeping with you. Cadbury under your arm the whole night like a little stuffed toy and Knight at your feet, both very comfortable on your bed.
Our routine now is they come to my room every night. Cadbury plops himself on my bed while I watch TV (yes, I am brave enough to pick him up now), and Knight sleeps on the floor. Strangely, he doesn’t want to get on my bed. When I go to sleep, they move out of my room and sleep with Tun.
Are there doggies in heaven darling? I’m quite sure there are. Sometimes I see the dogs staring into space, and I think they are thinking of you. Or perhaps you are talking to them. I often wonder if you said goodbye to them that fateful night. But I don’t think you did. To have done so would have meant some level of rationality.
Keep visiting Dumb and Dumber (ok, ok I’ll stop calling them that).
Love you darling,
Mum
