As mentioned in part one of my voice notes post, there are another 100 voice notes Josh has sent me personally. The past two posts were beautifully sad, and I thought listening to some of these voice notes might cheer us all up – well, hopefully. Not that anything will cheer us up, will it?
Here are a couple of voice notes (with contexts!) that I thought Josh wouldn’t mind me sharing. Anyway, even if he does mind it, I would share them anyway – they are just too cute or too funny. Besides, he never hesitated to “embarrass” me too! Once in class, we were tasked to research a topic collaboratively and present our findings. He was always the one presenting our ideas because he enjoyed it and I preferred being the quiet contributor – another reason why we’re a great team. After he had finished presenting our findings, he pointed to me and said, “Now Shalini will share a joke she’s been waiting to share with everyone!” He had this mischievous, boyish grin on his face. I looked at him and honestly couldn’t even be mad. I’ll give it to him, it was so funny – I would do it to him too. I turned to him in shock and saw him covering his mouth to hide his laughter. Everyone stared at me and started to realize that Josh set this up. Thinking on my feet, I pointed to him and said, “joke” – as in, he was my joke – and he burst out laughing, saying it was a clever save. Thankfully, our lecturer found this hilarious too and thanked us for the laugh before moving on. Josh and I continued sniggering for at least ten minutes after and I told him to never do that again because I’ll think of something else to save myself or figure out a way to turn it on him. And guess what? He said that the next time his extended relatives come over and I meet them for the first time, he’s going to gather everyone and tell them I’ll sing a song for them out of appreciation and excitement. I think you can all imagine the fear and shock on my face. So, I think it’s quite alright that I “embarrass” him now. Anyway, I’ll hear about it the next time I see him.
I hope this post was still enjoyable, even for the readers who aren’t related to Josh and I. It’s nice to reminisce and these voice notes really take me back to when they were being recorded. Back then, I’d listen to his responses while walking to his place, so it’s really nice to hear them back and imagine myself walking to his place to see him now. If I imagine hard enough, it’s almost like nothing changed. I’m glad we have all of these voice notes. Similarly, these voice notes have been extracted and put in another private podcast that I’ve shared with his mum and sister.
To Josh: Can you believe that I’ve just put our personal voice notes, even the ones to Lynn, out there for all to listen to? Sometimes I think I might have erased the fine line between what I should be sharing and what I shouldn’t. I guess memories are memories, right? And I’m sure your family would love to hear about anything and everything related to you. Hope I won’t get into too much trouble with you for sharing these! I can’t wait to see you again. I love you more, always, and forever.
Love always,
Sha
