I Swear You Will Be Fine

Dear Josh,

The week is getting harder. But I’m also telling myself how blessed we are to have so many still thinking of us and you, and being a part of your birthday.

On Monday morning, I woke up and said to you, “it’s birthday week Josh”. And a few minutes later when I went to your room, there was an iMessage on your phone from my number. I guess you acknowledged it.

The week is going to be super busy for us, baking for the numerous orders for cupcakes we’ve received. Our first preparation was last Sunday, starting the morning with baking. Later that afternoon, we set up a “factory” line. Ammamma and I were doing the icing, Shalini was doing the gold glitter dusting, Jess was carefully placing the little gold and purple hearts, and Aunty J was placing the cupcakes in their boxes. Tun of course, was doing more than any of us- making the batter, icing, and getting all of us anything and everything we needed. You would have been quite proud. The results were beautiful and had to pass Jess’s and Shalini’s strict quality control! 

We constantly talked about how you would have wanted it a particular way. And we also talked about how I nearly had a meltdown when I was making Ammamma’s 70th birthday cake. Jess and you came to the rescue and proposed I redo the decorating of the cake at 10pm the night before. And so you both offered to drive to the 24 hour supermarket to get more butter. When you came home, you briefly stated that you thought you had seen Shalini at the supermarket. I asked you if you said hi, and you said no….

Anyway, this was the first batch of cupcakes. Everyone has been so generous and supportive. We are nearing 400 cupcake orders. We have 2 more batches this week- the largest for your actual birthday itself. Every morning and night will be spent doing this. 

So it really, really is your birthday week.
