Day 622 – Nara

Dear Josh,

Recently, memories of our last holiday as the 3 of us keep coming back.

Do you remember the morning we got to Kyoto? I think it was one of the only taxi rides we did. You were so brilliant at navigating the subway system in Japan.

We were debating on visiting the bamboo forest or Nara. I think Jess was leaning towards the bamboo forest, but we ended up going to Nara. As usual, you navigated the trip. Getting there was a bit of a feat. The trains were so confusing. And we were exhausted. Jess and I were getting annoyed but also trying not to show it to you. It took awhile, but you got us there.

I remember first coming across a deer, literally almost on the roadside. We were all so excited. Throughout the afternoon, we encountered multiple deer. You were the one who went closest to them.

Later, we walked around Nara for a long while, stumbled across some temples (that also had deer hanging around), and then went to a Starbucks overlooking a lake. It was truly beautiful.

Jess and you even managed to find me the strawberry mochi I was looking for.

It was a really nice day.

When I think of heaven, I am reminded of Nara. You were so happy that day. I truly hope this is what heaven is like.

Love Mum
