Day 673 – Be Quiet

Dear Josh,

Like Shalini and Jess mentioned, I think we are already feeling the impact of the end of the year nearing.

Shalini, Jess and I watched a couple of your videos when we were in London. The first time we tried, Jess cried so hard we had to stop. A few days later, we tried again, and we got through most of it.

I was telling Aunty J the other day about the opening of the first video. It was Jess’s 8th birthday. Her friends were all playing outside. I think it was some party game. At some point, the camera turns towards the main door. And there you are. A little 4 year old. Aunty J was standing by your side.

You murmur something initially. When you finally realise that no one was listening to you, you yell out, “can you all be quiet please?”. You say it again, just as loudly. Maybe for effect? The noisy 8 year old girls drop their volume for just a few seconds, and then they’re back at it again. Aunty J quickly moves you back into the house so you stop bothering the girls.

I’ve watched it several times. Like I said before, I have forgotten you before the illness took over your life. Watching this though, I sometimes wonder. Did I just not see it before? You were very bothered by loud noises when you were older. I failed to realise it bothered you when you were little. Or as Shalini said to me, was it just a little boy being cheeky? I hope it’s the latter. I’d like to think you were happy most of your childhood.

These videos are beyond precious, and worth every cent we paid. I only wish you were also with us watching them. You would have absolutely loved it.

Love Mum
