Dear Josh,
One of your favourite nephews is visiting us soon. We are quite excited. It will also hopefully help us to be a bit distracted as we get closer to your birthday.
We were also talking about where we may take him in Singapore. USS is a must. Maybe the zoo or bird park too, which both have nice water parks as well I think.
When Jess and I were in Seoul, there was one afternoon that we got ourselves a hot shiopan and sat on one of the benches to eat them. In front of us was a small water park. It was partially barricaded so no one was running around the little fountains of water despite it being quite hot. We both agreed with each other – if little Josh was here, he would have gone past the barricade to play in the fountains.
I recalled an incident when both of you were very little. Trips to the zoo and bird park were very common, especially during the school holidays. On one of these trips, both of you changed into your swimmers and were playing in the water park. You loved this, getting completely wet and running around the little fountains.
Jess would have been about 5 and you were about 2. There was something all the kids had to queue up for. Perhaps a swing near the water fountains. Jess was patiently queuing up waiting for her turn. When it was finally her turn, another little boy came up and cut her off, taking his turn.
And then you came up out of nowhere, and said to the little boy, “excuse me, it’s my sister’s turn!”. Despite your significantly smaller size to the boy who looked closer to Jess’s age, he backed off and Jess had her turn. I recall thinking I would never need to worry about you.
I wish you were still here to look out for Jess. I guess we take comfort that you are still looking out for us. As our guardian angel.
Love Mum
