I Swear You Will Be Fine

Dear Josh,

You gave me an insane sign today! Or actually, I’m not sure if this is you helping me out or giving me a sign. Whatever it was, it had my jaw on the floor. I was on the bus on my way to Spin class when it started pouring. I had no umbrella on me – a silly choice I made before leaving the house, thinking I’ll manage even if it rains – and I was about twenty minutes away from my stop, so I thought the rain might stop before it was my turn to get off. I was quite wrong because what I thought was heavy rain was in fact an opening act to the heaviest rain I have ever seen… three stops before I had to get off. I’m not joking, the rain was so heavy I couldn’t see the road ahead. I knew I was pretty much screwed then because I didn’t see how it could miraculously stop in the time it takes for the bus to move three stops.

I was mentally preparing myself and checking the time to see if I could wait at the bus stop for a couple of minutes before running through the rain. As the bus moved closer and closer to my stop, it was evident that the rain was not letting up. It was a desperate moment, I’ll admit, and I was 99% sure that my prayers weren’t going to be answered, but I decided to try anyway. I talked to you. “Josh, please, please, please, I don’t know how you’re going to do this, but I have to get off in like thirty seconds and it would be really nice if I didn’t have to get soaked.” Literally one second later, I look ahead and sky has cleared. It was still drizzling, and the bus was ten seconds away from my stop, but I told myself a drizzle is nothing compared to the shower I would have otherwise been forced to take. I was so happy with the drizzle.

But, as always, you have to do things perfectly. Right as my bus stopped, as the doors opened and I got ready to step out, I saw sunlight shining on the concrete floor! The drizzle completely stopped and the sun was shining! I got off and looked up at the sky in disbelief. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one in shock because I could see people looking around and up, uncertainly putting their umbrellas down. Some were still walking with their umbrellas, not noticing that the rain had gone away. You seriously cleared the sky! How in the world that was possible I truly have no idea, but thank you for not only ensuring that I wasn’t soaked, but completely dry!   

I was so excited I had to tell your mum. I’m sure I didn’t describe it very well in text because of the shock and excitement I was feeling, and I don’t know if anyone who wasn’t physically present can imagine the sight I saw – with the rain stopping almost immediately and the sun coming out – but it truly felt like a scene from a movie. An actual miracle. I’ve never seen the weather clear up so quickly in my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’m pretty sure I said “thank you” aloud as I walked to my building too.

This was not my intended post for the today, but your sign was too amazing not to share. Can’t wait to see you again. I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, and I’ll miss you more than you can imagine.
