Day 604 – Surprise

Dear Josh,

I was on the receiving end of a surprise today. I was not planning on writing about this, but that would give it too little credit. S came over to your place for dinner today. A couple of weeks or so ago, he video called me in the middle of the day and asked me to choose between two Spiderman posters. I instantly knew it was for you. We chose a poster for you together, and he brought it over in a brown paper bag today. I saw the brown paper bag as he entered the house, and didn’t think much of it; I had no reason to. After he took out the poster and showed it to your mum, he passed me the paper bag and said what’s inside is for me – an early birthday present.

I was super shocked but your mum had a knowing look on her face. Turns out, both your mum and sister were in on this! S had asked them both to ensure that I didn’t buy this gift for myself. Apart from feeling soooo touched, I was a tad bit betrayed. I speak to your mum, sister, and S so frequently and they all kept this secret so well, I almost feel lied to!

The gift was something I had my eye on for a while now. I was never going to buy it for myself even though I really wanted it because I didn’t want to spend money on myself. It was an Olivia Rodrigo Lego Flower Bouquet! I had no idea what to expect. When S gave me the brown paper bag, I peeked inside and saw the Lego icon on the box but was wondering what Lego it could be because I didn’t mention any Lego I wanted. My first thought was, “Gosh I hope he didn’t spend too much on this!” Imagine my surprise when I pulled out the box and it was one of the Olivia Rodrigo Lego I had been secretly eyeing! I actually started jumping up and down in excitement.

Later in the night, we spontaneously decided to drive around and ended up spending a couple of hours together. I asked him how he knew I liked Lego and he said, “It was all you and Josh talked about. You also keep customizing Lego for him.” It is true. My recent anniversary present to you – one I didn’t write about – was a customized “Lego” set of the four of us (you, me, the doggies). It’s a gift your mum and I intend to build together (hopefully your mum is still willing to do it!).

I honestly cannot describe how I felt when I saw the Lego gift today. It has been a long, long time since I felt so happy I could cry tears of joy, and tonight was close enough. I actually got home, thought about it – the thought of getting it for me, of asking your family to ensure I don’t buy it for myself, everyone keeping the secret – and teared up out of joy and appreciation. Thank you, Josh. I can’t put it into words, but thank you. This one is going in my mental box of happy memories.

Can’t wait to see you again. I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, and I’ll miss you more than you can imagine.

Love always,
Sha
