Day 659 – Day Before Grad

Dear Josh,

It is the night before Jess’s graduation. In our usual manner of coping, we tried our best to keep ourselves super busy. I realise now more than ever, how helpful it has been to have Shalini and Aunty K here.

Last night we went to watch Book of Mormon. About 10 minutes into the show, my thoughts went spiralling. I thought to myself, “here it comes”. How in the world are we in this situation? Are you really not here for one of the most important occasions in our family? Lucky for me, the show was more than distracting. Within minutes, I was holding my hands to my face in disbelief of the words coming out of the various actors’ mouths! How I wish you could have been with us. Shalini and Jess said later though, that you may have found it too crude to watch with Jess and me! You would have probably agreed to watch it only with Shalini!

Shalini and I went to the florist near here and looked for flowers for the graduation. We asked the florist to bring in Callie lilies, Jess’s favourite flowers. A couple of hours ago, I went to the florist to select the final bouquet. The Callie lilies had just come in, and they are a deep, deep purple.

We are all trying to put on a brave face and be chill. This morning Shalini and I had our first breakdown together since we came to London. But it’s ok. It had to happen. You would have loved the sight in our living room just a few minutes ago- Shalini painting Jess’s nails! The 2 of them have such a close bond. There is not a single fibre in my body that doesn’t wish you are also part of this most wholesome alliance.

Be with us tomorrow Josh, in any possible way you can.

Love Mum
